crocheted Wasp, Hornet nest
I made this crocheted wasp nest last summer as a decoy. It's supposed to keep the real wasps and hornets from building a nest near your house.
I believe it really worked. I have a small fish pond just off the patio where alot of wasps and hornets visit. Before putting up this nest I was always finding the beginnings of real nests being built. Since putting up the fake nest they just seem to land on the water for a drink then fly off in my neighbors direction. I found the pattern at Hankering for Yarn blog, but it seems she has since removed the pattern. Here is the link anyway: Hankering for Yarn

Where can I get pattern
The original pattern is no longer available, but I did find a close match. The designer is Noreen Crone-Findlay. The pattern is called "Crocheted Wasp Be Gone Nest", found on Etsy for 5.00. A PDF download. A great pattern.
The Wayback Machine (archives.org) was able to find the pattern from 2008 here:
